For 2 years I was stuck

Progress happens when performance is measured.

Every session becomes feedback. Track the metrics that matter, see how you improve, and challenge yourself to go further.

Foiling is not just about the ride. It is about getting better every time you enter the water.

What Riders Are Saying

“I'm truly impressed with Endless Waves. I've been using Strava, WaterSpeed, and Surfline for a while now, and nothing compares to this app for foiling.”

About the Founder

Kevin Dickinson

Kevin Dickinson

Founder

Endless Waves was created by Kevin Dickinson, an ocean athlete and software builder who wanted better tools for foiling progression.

Most fitness apps are built for running or cycling and only capture basic GPS data. Even most foiling apps try to support every discipline. As a result, they miss the metrics that actually matter for riders trying to improve.

Endless Waves focuses specifically on the three disciplines where progression is driven by technique and endurance: dock start, prone, and downwind foiling.

By focusing on these disciplines, the app can track the things foilers actually care about such as longest run, time on foil, distance, and personal records across sessions.

The goal is simple.
Turn every session into measurable progress.

Common Questions About Foil Surfing Tracking

Everything you need to know about tracking your prone, surf foiling, downwind foiling, dock start foiling, surfing, and other water sessions with Endless Waves.

What is Endless Waves?
Endless Waves is a session tracker for prone, surf foiling, downwind foiling, dock start foiling, surfing, and more. It uses GPS on your Apple Watch or Garmin to automatically track every session, count your waves, measure time on foil, and record personal records so you can see exactly how you are progressing.
How does automatic wave counting work?
The app uses GPS data and proprietary algorithms to detect each wave you catch during a prone foiling session. It analyzes the wave direction and compares it to the direction you are heading to determine when you have connected with a wave and started foiling, then counts each wave automatically. No manual logging required. Just paddle out and the app handles the rest.
What metrics does Endless Waves track?
Endless Waves tracks over a dozen foiling specific metrics including total distance on foil, longest single run distance, total time on foil, number of waves caught, max speed, average speed, heart rate (via Apple Watch or Garmin), session duration, foiling efficiency (percentage of time on foil vs paddling), and personal records across all of these categories.
What devices are supported?
Endless Waves currently supports Apple Watch (all models with GPS) and Garmin watches. The iPhone app displays all your data, maps, and progression charts. Android and Wear OS support is coming soon.
How is Endless Waves different from Strava or Dawn Patrol?
Strava is built for running and cycling. Dawn Patrol is a surf tracker that has since added a foiling feature, but it is an afterthought bolted onto a surf app rather than something designed for foiling from the ground up. Endless Waves is the only app built exclusively for foiling. It understands the difference between being on foil and paddling, automatically counts waves, tracks foiling specific metrics like longest run and time on foil, and provides progression tools designed around how foilers actually improve.
What types of sessions does the app support?
Endless Waves supports prone foiling, surf foiling, downwind foiling, dock start foiling, flatwater foiling, wing foiling, para winging, wing foil downwind, para wing downwind, prone start downwind foil, dock start downwind foil, kite foiling, surfing, kiteboarding, windsurfing, downwind SUP foil, wake thief dock start foil, towed jet ski foil, assisted foil (foil drive), tow boogie foil, wake foiling, tow boogie assisted downwind foil, jet ski boat assisted downwind foil, beach start foil, e-foiling, SUP surfing, and towed jet ski surf. Each discipline has tailored tracking and metrics.
Can I see my sessions on a map?
Yes. Every session includes a full GPS map showing your track on a satellite view. You can replay your session as an animation, see each wave highlighted on the map, and view speed and distance data along your route. You can also share interactive session maps with anyone via a web link.
What are Shared Runs?
Shared Runs is a feature that detects when you and other Endless Waves riders were on the water at the same time and place. It automatically creates a shared session view where you can replay everyone's tracks side by side on a single map, color coded by rider. It is a great way to relive sessions with friends.
Can I plan a downwind route in advance?
Yes. The downwind route builder lets you drop waypoints on the map to plan a run ahead of time, set start and end locations, and save multiple routes per spot. The route syncs to your Apple Watch so you can follow it on the water — the watch overlays the route on the map, shows live distance to the next waypoint, and tracks your progress along the line. It is built specifically for downwind foiling where knowing where to go and when you are off course matters.
Is there a way to connect with other riders?
Yes. Endless Waves has a full set of social features built around your riding crew. Search for friends by name inside the Friends tab, send a friend request by email address, or tap Invite from Contacts to pick someone from your phone contacts and fire off a prefilled text message. The invite link opens the app if they already have it installed, or sends them to the App Store first — when they sign in, you are connected automatically. Once you are friends, you can see each other's sessions, message each other inside the app, and get notified when someone in your crew heads out or syncs a new session.
What are smoke signals?
Smoke signals let you broadcast to your friends that you are heading out. Set an ETA (or leave it open), pick a location, and add a short message like "Conditions are firing" or "Meet me at the jetty." Friends see a live countdown card in their feed — "ETA: 12 min" ticks down in real time, and once you are past the ETA it switches to "Was heading out 8 min ago" so late viewers still get the context. Signals auto-expire so your feed stays current.
Do I get notified when my friends finish a session?
Yes. When a friend syncs a new session to Endless Waves, you get a push notification and it shows up in your Friends feed. Tap the notification and you jump straight into their session — full map replay, wave count, distance on foil, longest run, and everything else they recorded. It is the easiest way to see how your crew is riding without waiting for them to post anything.
How does the leaderboard and competition feature work?
Endless Waves has community leaderboards where you can compare your sessions against other foilers. You can see how your longest run, total distance, wave count, and other metrics stack up. Spot based leaderboards and head to head challenges are coming soon.
Is Endless Waves free?
Yes, Endless Waves is free to download and use. All core tracking features, wave counting, personal records, maps, and progression charts are included at no cost.
How do I get started with Endless Waves?
Download the Endless Waves app from the App Store, create an account, and install the companion watch app on your Apple Watch or Garmin. Before your next session, open the watch app and press start. The app will track everything automatically. After your session, open the iPhone app to see your full session data, maps, and metrics.
Does the app work without cell service on the water?
Yes. The Apple Watch and Garmin watch apps use the built in GPS on your watch to record your session. No cell service or internet connection is needed while you are on the water. Your session data syncs to the iPhone app automatically when you reconnect.
