Watch Buying Guide

Our Recommendation

The Apple Watch Ultra is by far the best watch for Endless Waves. The Ultra 2 is the sweet spot — there's very little difference between the Ultra 2 and Ultra 3, so you can save money going with the 2. The Ultra 1 is an older design but will also work well.

Other Apple Watches

Any Apple Watch will work with Endless Waves. However, non-Ultra models don't have the Action Button, so if you plan on ever towing, you'll have some limitations on the data you can capture.

What About Garmin?

Garmin watches are tempting in the surf and foil community because of their longer battery life. However, there are serious limitations on what we can do on Garmin in an accurate way. There are significant limitations on development for Garmin, so there will always be a better experience with more features on the Apple Watch.

Buying Used

You can find used Apple Watches for under $100 — a great way to get started without breaking the bank. You can also find refurbished Apple Watches on Amazon, often for a similar price with the added peace of mind of a return policy.

Beware of Scams

If you're buying on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or similar platforms, be very careful. Fake Apple Watches are getting extremely convincing — even serial numbers can look up as valid online, and fakes come fully packaged and sealed.

Before handing over any money:

  • Make sure the watch fully pairs with your iPhone first
  • Google “how to spot a fake Apple Watch” beforehand
  • Never trust packaging alone, even if it looks factory-sealed

Assisted Wave Mode

Apple Watch Ultra Only

Use the orange Action Button to manually control when wave tracking starts and stops. Works with:

  • Jet ski tow-ins
  • Tow boogie tow-ins
  • Wake foiling
  • eFoil tow-ins
  • eFoil / foil drive
  • Any powered watercraft assist

How It Works

  1. 1

Press Action Button when you start riding a wave (let go of the rope or stop relying on electric assist)

  2. 2

Wave tracking begins once you hit foil speed

  3. 3

Wave ends automatically when you slow down, or press the Action Button again to end it manually

Tip: Manual end is useful for eFoil riders who transition back to motor power without slowing down.

Garmin Support

Beta

Garmin support is in beta. We support a wide range of devices but can't guarantee full compatibility for every model. If you have any issues, use the contact form on our homepage to report it.

Garmin Limitations

Garmin watches have significant memory and connectivity limitations. We strongly recommend syncing your session as soon as you finish — keep your phone nearby for faster syncing.
